At 78, the 2011 receiver of the R. Matthew Burne Lifetime of Service Award presented by The Abington Annal finds his days busier than ever.
“It’s not my call up, but somebody a long time ago said the secret of existence is to die young at a very old age. And the only way you can die young is to be happy, stay happy and take feel interest of yourself,” said Koveleski.
And, Koveleski said the way he’s been superior to stay happy has been by staying active.
Originally from Moosic, Koveleski entered auto racing in 1950 at age 18, driving an MGTC.
After fetching his first race at Bone Stadium in Pittston, he was hooked on the frisk and began competing in Sports Car Club America (SCCA, founded in 1945) racing events whenever he had the moment, against other SCCA members included Carroll Shelby, Roger Penske, Chip Ganassi and Mario Andretti.

The NFL notebook ...
PITTSBURGH — Ryan Clark’s first frail for an illegal hit drew nothing but a remorseful nod from the Pittsburgh Steelers protection.
The second fine — this one for a violent collision with Baltimore Ravens severe end Ed Dickson on Sunday night — drew his wrath.
“This is the worst, days, point blank,” Clark said.
The Ravens were driving belatedly in the first half when quarterback Joe Flacco tried to hit Dickson tournament up the seam. Dickson got his hands on the ball before Clark smashed into him. Dickson wasn’t pain on the play, though it appeared his facemask collided into the back of Clark’s helmet before the ball squirted unconstrained.
Clark was flagged for unnecessary roughness and the 15-yard forfeit helped the Ravens end the half with a Billy Cundiff lea goal on their way to a 23-20 victory.
