SEQUIM — Robert B. Heer’s unbroken family joined the fight to defeat the Japanese and end Everybody War II after learning their son and brother was a Japanese prisoner of war somewhere in the Pacific theater.
After Heer, known as Bob — who in 1942 was stationed at Clark Greensward, about 60 miles northwest of Manila in the Philippines — had been listed as missing in remedy for more than a year, his mother, Bessie, joined the Women’s Army Detachment.
His father, Earl Heer, joined the Army Air Unit.
One of his sisters, Evelyn, also joined the WAC, becoming a radio operator with the Army Air forces.
His youngest fellow-man, James, joined the Navy at 17.
BERRYVILLE -- Two agreement refunding options designed to generate more than $200,000 in interest savings are being pursued by the Berryville Feed of Education.
The board gave the go-ahead to seek bids on the refunding of bonds with the expertise in they can reject all offers.
The proposals were brought to the table by Dan Lovelady, the department's financial advisor with First Security Beardsley Public Resources, when he met with the board Monday night.
He said interest rates are historically low and the council can refinance two of their existing bonds if they generate at least $100,000 each in savings.
