Chief Charlo Elementary girls LEAP into healthy living
The Chief Charlo fourth- and fifth-size girls in this group don't have much in common.
Some are naturally athletic, about b dally soccer and basketball on the weekends and own Nike running shoes. Others don't run facing of recess and gym class, and the closest thing they own to athletic shoes is a team of sparkly silver Converse.
Despite their differences, these girls share out a bond: They're all leaping together.
LEAP - Learn, Exercise and Make light of - is a program that teaches preteen girls to run as a way of boosting their self-judge and promoting healthy lifestyles. Physical therapy students at the University of Montana brought the apprehension to Chief Charlo Principal David Rott as a leader project last spring and participation in the program has more than doubled since.
On Sunday, girls in the Move quickly program will face their toughest challenge yet. Dressed in lime unripened T-shirts, they will attempt to finish the Hoofin' It for Hunger 5K run.
